What a wake window means
A wake window is the time between waking up and the next sleep. It is a planning range, not a timer that must be obeyed to the minute.
Wake windows by age
| Age | Typical wake window | Planning note |
|---|---|---|
| 0-4 weeks | 20-60 min | Think in cycles: feed, diaper, calm contact, sleep. |
| 2 months | 50-80 min | Short windows are still normal. |
| 3 months | 75-105 min | The first nap often needs the shortest window. |
| 4-5 months | 90-165 min | Watch for overtiredness during the 4-to-3 transition. |
| 6-8 months | 130-225 min | Longer windows make the day more structured. |
| 9-12 months | 165-270 min | Two naps usually frame the day. |
How NapCoach uses wake windows
- Age gives the baseline range.
- The last wake-up starts the current timer.
- Recent short naps can change what the next step should be.
- The app separates practical schedule advice from medical advice.
When the window is not enough
If the baby had a very short nap, woke unusually early, or is near a nap transition, the next decision often needs more context than a simple chart. That is the point of tracking the day in NapCoach.
